When the very first NMSU Aggies Are Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign launched in 2007, co-chairs Pat Sisbarro and Laura Conniff asked Memorial Medical Center and Mountainview Regional Medical Center to sign-on as Charter Sponsors. Both hospitals said yes and both have signed on again as Charter Sponsors for the 2016 campaign.
After the success of the 2007 campaign, the Las Cruces Sun News was approached in 2008 by the co-chairs to be a Charter Sponsor and the newspaper has supported TETWP at the highest level ever since.
“Our Charter Sponsors are a special group” said Laura Conniff, “because they represent the very best of the Las Cruces business community. Between their cash and gifts-in-kind, they’ve provided the backbone to our annual fundraising and awareness efforts. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them.”
At the Charter level, each sponsor makes a commitment to provide cash, services and other gifts-in-kind valued at $30,000 each year. Staff and employees from each organization also volunteer their time, effort and money annually in a number of different ways. When it’s all added up, the total value of their combined contributions is impossible calculate and irreplaceable in terms of impact.
NMSU Aggies Are Tough Enough to Wear Pink is unique because it is an absolutely local effort with no financial affiliation to any national group or organization. The fact is that 100% of the funds raised by TETWP are presented to Cowboys for Cancer Research, a Las Cruces based 501c3 not-for-profit corporation and used to advance cancer research projects at both New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico Cancer Center. Beyond the co-chairs, an estimated total of 500 volunteers have worked on committees, special projects and fundraising efforts since 2007.
When everything is added up, TETWP has generated more than $4 million dollars in cash and in-kind gifts and is ranked as the #1 Tough Enough to Wear Pink event in the world. In 2014, TETWP reached a milestone when a $1.5 cancer research endowment was fully funded at the New Mexico State University Foundation.
